Operation Neon Tiger - episode 06

 Intro

- Making business with you is a pleasure: my affiliates have just informed me that they have been granted access to the Casta Diva.

The smuggler smiled back.

- The pleasure is mine, Lely Ohw. These are trying times for business at Hlökk Station: first those Minescorp goons, now the aliens...I guess faces come and go but war never changes. Anyway, this deal is really something to celebrate with a toast: to the Casta Diva, the most beautiful ship on this side of the Brísingamen’s rim.

Lely Ohw lifted his glass full of cloudy Nomad's liquor, distillated somewhere in the depths of space by wandering scalpers. Suddenly, Fashas'di's voice broke into his communication device:

- The Nomads are on us! We have to engage them immediately and wipe them out without a trace: no one must know we're leaving Hlökk Station on board of the Casta Diva. Close our transaction, fast!

Mission and Lists

300 points - Decapitation ITS Season 13 supplement
🐜 Shasvastii Expeditionary Force VS 😼  Corregidor

Deployment

Corregidor wins the initiative roll and keeps initiative, going first. Shasvastii choose to deploy second.

Blizzard templates and Defensive turrets are placed, following ITS 13 rules. Corregidor places the turret on his far right and Shasvastii does the same.

😼  The HVTs are placed on the central right and on the far left. The Warcor goes on the far right, over the building's rooftop. The central building of the deployment zone is held by the Wildcat core, with the missile launcher on top and the spitfire on the left building. Everyone else stays in total cover behind the main building, with the Lieutenant on first level. Billie goes prone on the central left building while Jazz, also prone, goes on the roof of the central left one. On the far left, Wolfgang Amadeus and the Jaguars are deployed close to the control room. The Bandit goes prone on the control room's balcony while the Vertigo Zond stands in the rear left.

🐜 The HVTs are place on the center and on the left, protected by buildings on two sides. The paramedic Seed Soldier is placed on the far left, protecting the leftmost HVT. Aida goes on the central staircase, deploying her viral mine to assist the central HVT and rolling a 10 on the Booty Chart to obtain an EXP CC weapon. The Noctifer is hidden deployed above the tallest central building. Mentor Lieutenant and his decoy are placed in camo state under the turret's protection. The Haiduk goes on the right, covering two firelanes thanks to his sapper skill. On the far right, Sheeskin and the two Calibans are ready to storm the control room.
WIP is rolled and...a minelayer Speculo Killer succesfully deploys behind the enemy lines, threatening the Lieutenant with a camo token.

Deployment ends with the Moran deployment on rightside rooftops and his crazykoala ready to strike on the HVT or the Seed Soldier and with another minelayer Speculo Killer passing his WIP roll, reaching the missile launcher and lying a mine close to the spitfire Wildcat.

Turn 1

😼 Corregidor
With two orders removed from Group 2, Corregidor starts by activating the Bandit to drop his repeater. Subsequentely, Jazz spotlights Sheeskin who fails to reset. Guided missiles are launched and the Cadmus-Naish agent goes down to one wound. Another order is spent and, failing to dodge, Sheeskin bites the dust.
With his own order, the Hellcat lands in the enemy deployment zone, reaching a good spot to discover and shoot the Mentor without triggering the turret. After spending three more orders, the Mentor lies on the ground while the Hellcat stands still, unscratched by the successful hits of the Noctifer's missile launcher. The Seed Soldier is appointed lieutenant.
Now it's time for Corregidor to take care of the mines deployed by Speculo Killers: unfortunately, Billie and a Jaguar are immolated in the process. Meanwhile, the other Jaguar is met by the MSV Caliban who sends him to dogged state with his spitfire as Wolfgang enters the control room. In the following firefight, Amadeus suffers a wound while the Caliban goes unconscious.
In a final attempt to regroup and reach a good spot to take down the Seed Soldier, the spitfire Wildcat provokes a good ARO for the Noctifer that shreds him to pieces. In exchange, the Seed Soldier is subsequently revealed by the Warcor.

🐜 Shasvastii
The Haiduk efficently shoots down the HVT in sight. Unwilling to suffer another turn because of guided missiles, the rear Speculo Killer reaches the Vertigo and cuts it in two. With few orders remaining, the Caliban reaches Wolfgang Amadeus in CC. It's a clash between equally capable fighters, but the rolls, despite being poor for everyone, favor Corregidor. The Noctifer tries to take down the Hellcat but to no avail. The Speculo killer goes for the missile launcher Wildcat and succeeds but is targeted in the process.

Turn 2

😼 Corregidor
Taking advantage of a distracted Noctifer, the Moran comes forward and deploys his second crazykoala. He then proceeds to peak out of the balcony to shoot the HVT down but gets shot to unconscious state by an attentive Haiduk. With now only two Wildcats remaining, one being the Lieutenant, Corregidor focuses on taking down the Speculo Killer threatening him. Dice are rolled, and the Speculo bites the dust. Lastly, the Hellcat shoots the Noctifer, prompting his ARO: this triggers the Koala and the lord of Hidden Deployment goes straight to dead state.

🐜 Shasvastii
With only four orders left, it is now the time for Aida to go in charge. In an incredibly cinematic order sequence, she leaves her spot, climbs down a wall, crosses the space between the buildings and reaches the enemy lieutenant, shooting him down. Amadeus is selected as new lieutenant but this doesn't stop Aida who reaches the balcony and sends to unconscious the Wildcat with boarding shotgun who was left in the open.

Turn 3

😼 Corregidor
The last Wildcat comes forward shooting, thus prompting a dodge reaction by the Seed Soldier, which triggers the koala that explodes sending him to unconscious. Luckily, the always attentive Haiduk takes the chance to open fire, fatally wounding the enemy. Having two lieutenants down, the Speculo Killer who took down the Vertigo is appointed as new lieutenant. Jazz tries to shoot a pitcher midfield to protect Wolfgang with spotlight AROs, but fails.

Yeah, I know: that's not Aida but, I mean, isn't proxying models one of the best perks of Infinity?

🐜 Shasvastii
With only three orders remaining, the Speculo Killer uses her lieutenant order to shoot the last enemy HVT, who tanks the hit and gets inside the building to take cover. Its a chance for the Haiduk, who leaves his foxhole to take it down. With only two orders left and the possibility to still win by Army points killed, Aida tries to shoot down the Warcor but to no avail.

Calculations are made: Shasvastii still has 76 points on the table, while Corregidor has 84.

Final score: Corregidor wins! 8 - 4

Debriefing

🐜 Shasvastii
This game was so much fun! I've always dismissed Decapitation as a boring full frontal mission but it was far from that: there were many strategic decisions to make and lots of epic moments. I've suffered going second a lot also because of the order difference between our lists. The turning point of the match was maybe when the Caliban reached Wolfgang Amadeus in CC and lost the face to face rolling a 3 as my opponent rolled a 4, after loosing both Sheskiin and the other Caliban in the same unfortunate area. Dice can be cruel but I guess this is also the kind of thrill that make a game like this memorable.

😼 Corregidor
Dealing with two Speculos, both deploying in your own deployment zone, is never easy. The majority of my points and SWCs investments: the Wildcat Core team and Wolfgang Haris were both neutered. I was lucky the two high risk - high reward tricks I brought: the Vertigo and the Hellcat both worked flawlessly and efficiently.
All in all it was a good game: it developed a nice narrative with many nail biting moments and the score remained uncertain until the last order of the last turn.

Outro

Philomena entered in the smuggler's office overlooking the dock, now crowded again after the dust of their firefight with Shasvastii had settled down. O-12 operatives were now storming the station, making her job more difficult: it was a matter of time before they also got there.
The man was lying on the floor, slashed by the monofilament blade of a Speculo Killer. Next to him, a pool of cheap liquor spilled from a shattered glass.

His terminal had been wiped out clean: no clues about the ship bought by the alien. The trail Philomena was following faded, blocked by a dead body and a blank hard disk.
She went to the desk: a mess of casino chips, holoads, gadgets, half empty boba cups and plain junk. A coffe stained Aristeia! Almanac with complete statistics for the 2170-2179 decade caught her attention. To her surprise, it was not an almanac, but an handwritten accounting book. Philomena smiled, despite all their ultramodern technology, human ingenuity kept paying off.

The last transaction involved a certain Lely Ohw for the Casta Diva ship. Philomena immediately called the Quetzal to warm up the reactor and scan the station's logs to search for the Casta Diva's permission to depart: they were back on the chase.
