Hey Cowboys and Cowgirls!
Taking advantage of the vacations Uopo and I gave Legends of the Old West a go. It is a ruleset from the Warhammer Historical series now out of printing.
It has the same mechanics they used for the Lord of the Rings miniature wargame.
I am actually very happy with the rules: fast playing, reasonable share of strategy but also a movie-like feeling thanks to heroic actions and insane fortune. We shall eventually adapt the mechanics to other settings (ultra-modern, sci-fi and fantasy).
The scenery is the same we use for middle-east ultra-modern readapted as Mexican Pueblo. An Old west town is on the wish list but may take a while to build up...

approfittando delle ferie Uopo ed io abbiam provato Legends of the Old West. Si tratta di un vecchio regolamento della serie Warhammer Historical oggi fuori stampa.
Ha le medesime meccaniche utilizzate per il gioco di miniature del signore degli Anelli.
Sono molto soddisfatto di queste regole: snelle e veloci, ragionevolmente strategiche ma anche un sapore cinematografico dovuto ad azioni eroiche e fortuna sfacciata. Lo riutilizzeremo eventualmente adattando le meccaniche alle altre ambientazioni che giochiamo (ultra-modern, sci-fi e fantasy).
Gli elementi scenici sono gli stessi che utilizziamo per ambientazioni medio orientali, riadattati a Pueblo Messicano. Una città del vecchio West è sulla lista dei desideri ma potrebbe volerci un po' di tempo a costruirla...
Sheriff Abrham Flint and his posse are pursuing the notorius criminal Rosco Johnson and his gang beyond the border. When their hopes to catch the outlaws were fading the horse of Noah Lee, the youngest of the fugitives, broke its leg. Noah was left behind and easily captured by the Sheriff's men.
Flint decided then to give up chasing Rosco and to head back to hang young Noah and start teaching a lesson to all the desperados harassing his jurisdiction.
On the way back to the US the lawmen posse stops to rest in the pueblo of Mesa Amarilla. Rosco and his men ride back to free their mate.
Lo Scriffo Abrham Flint e la sua posse sono all'inseguimento del famigerato criminale Rosco Johnson e della sua banda oltre il confine. Quando le loro speranze di catturare i fuorilegge stavano per scomparire il cavallo di Noah Lee, il più giovane dei fuggitivi, rimase azzoppato. Noah venne lasciato indietro dai compagni e catturato dagli uomini dello sceriffo.
Flint decise di smettere di inseguire Rosco per tornare indetro ad impiccare il giovane Noah e cominciare ad impartire una lezione a tutti i desperado che delinquono nella sua giursdizione.
Sulla via del ritorno verso gli Stati Uniti la posse di giustizieri fa tappa nel pueblo di Mesa Amarilla. Rosco e i suoi uomini tornano di gran carriera a liberare il loro compare.

The outlaws ready to assault the prison. To defend it two vigilantes with rifles on the roof, the Sheriff and a Deputy inside with the prisoner. The rest of the lawmen posse is chilling out, they shall (hopefully) arrive after the first shots.
I fuorilegge pronti all'assalto della prigione. A difenderla due vigilantes armati di fucile sul tetto, lo sceriffo e un vice all'interno. Il resto della posse si sta rilassando nella cantina, arriverranno, si spera, dopo i primi spari.

The outlaws advance in the open towards the adobe where their mate is kept captive. With a trick shot Rosco neutralizes one of the riflemen on the roof.
Incuranti del pericolo i fuorilegge avanzano allo scoperto verso l'adobe in cui il compagno è rinchiuso. Con un tiro preciso Rosco mette subito fuori gioco uno dei due tiratori sul tetto.

Flint and the Deputy fire back putting one of the outlaw out of action and forcing Rosco to spend all his Fortune. The adobe is surrounded by now, the reinforcements are late.
Flint e il vice rispondo al fuoco mettendo KO un fuorilegge e costringendo Rosco a dare fondo alla sua riserva di fortuna. L'adobe però ormai è circondato, i rinforzi tardano ad arrivare.

The bandits maneuver carefully to gain the best positioning before storming the adobe while the Sheriff and his Deputy are busy reloading their weapons. Rosco merciless put the last rifleman on the roof out of action. In the mean time the reinforcements arrive. Is it already too late?
I banditi a questo punto manovrano con attenzione per posizionarsi al meglio prima di assaltare l'adobe mentre lo sceriffo e il suo vice sono impegnati a ricaricare le armi. Rosco spietatamente elimina l'ultimo tiratore sul tetto. Intanto i rinforzi accorrono trafelati. Che sia ormai troppo tardi?

The fight moves indoor. The air is full with the smell of fear and gunpowder. In the wild melee Sheriff Flint is overwhelmed by three opponents and goes out of action. The Deputy is neutralized as well while one of the bandits searches for the keys to set Noah free from the handcuffs.
Lo scontro si sposta all'interno. L'aria è satura dell'odore della paura e della polvere da sparo. Nella mischia furibonda che segue lo sceriffo Flint viene sopraffatto da tre avversari e ha la peggio. Anche il vice viene messo KO mentre un bandito si mette alla ricerca delle chiavi per liberare Noah dalle manette.

The sawed-off shotguns of the lawmen reinforcements are finally in range and Rosco eats the dust. Now Noah is free but getting out of the prison may be harder than getting in.
I fucili a canne mozze degli uomini accorsi in soccorso dello sceriffo sono finalmente a portata e Rosco viene abbattuto. Adesso Noah è libero ma uscire dalla prigione potrebbe essere più arduo di quanto non sia stato entrare.

In the end the outlaws manage to get out of the lawmen's reach. Once again they made it...
Alla fine però i fuorilegge riescono a portarsi fuori dalla portata delle armi dei giustizieri. Ancora una volta l'hanno fatta franca...
